My Twitter Personalities
It’s tough to limit yourself when you do what you love. I wanted to add a brief description of my accounts and how I use them.
@MattSolar – this is my primary account and used almost exclusively for professional topics such as search & online marketing and social media. Associated website is the one you’re reading, MatthewSolar.com. There will be outdoorsy undertones in my posts as I do follow and converse with a lot of marketing people in the outdoor service and retail space. Regardless of the industry, I love having conversations with people on Twitter. Often times people are too conservative about opening up on Twitter (I know I have been) but I LOVE hearing from people – it’s what Twitter is for.
To prevent getting too far off topic, I’ve created the additional accounts below.
@WickedCycling – I use it to discuss our philanthropic efforts, goals, rides and to drive traffic to WickedPhilanthropy.org. It’s great for building relationships with other philanthropists, charitable/non-profit organizations, and event organizers (esp. “bike-a-thon” coordinators). Most of my in-person meetings have spawned from relationships built via @WickedCycling (or @WickedPhil as it was previously known).
@WalcottCorp – Commercial (non-residential) Real Estate is the family business (http://Walcottcorp.com). Both my brother and father are in the business and I’m using this account to demonstrate the potential value of social media. Walcott specializes in property ownership and management – an industry that’s notoriously slow moving. The debate started over a year ago and my goal is to illustrate that social media can provide leads, even from a external and uninvolved position like my own.
Finally, I know my blog has been receiving no attention lately (is it fair to blame the baby?). Frequency and post quality are down, I know (i.e. this post, perhaps. I’ll step it up… right after Labor Day weekend.
